Frequently Asked Questions

What image formats are supported?
Our tools support JPEG (ITU-T T.81), PNG (ISO 15948), WebP (IETF RFC 9649), GIF (CompuServe 89a), BMP, and SVG formats. Conversion between formats uses the HTML5 Canvas API, a W3C web standard supported by all modern browsers.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All image processing happens entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your images are never uploaded to or transmitted to any server. This means your photos, screenshots, and documents remain completely private on your device.
What is WebP and why should I use it?
WebP is a modern image format developed by Google that provides both lossy and lossless compression. It typically achieves 25–34% smaller file sizes than JPEG at equivalent visual quality, and supports transparency like PNG. WebP is standardized as IETF RFC 9649 and supported by all major browsers.
How do I reduce image file size without losing quality?
Use lossless PNG compression, which removes unnecessary metadata and optimizes encoding without altering any pixels, or convert to WebP, which achieves 25–34% smaller files than JPEG according to Google's comparison studies. For JPEG images, quality settings of 80–85% are visually indistinguishable from 100% for most photographs while reducing file size by 40–60%. Our tools let you preview results before downloading so you can find the optimal balance.
What is EXIF data and should I remove it?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format, defined by CIPA standard DC-008) is metadata embedded in photos by cameras and smartphones. It can include GPS coordinates, camera model, date and time, lens information, and exposure settings. Removing EXIF data before sharing photos online is recommended for privacy, as it can reveal your exact location and device information. Our metadata viewer lets you inspect exactly what is embedded in any image, and our converter tools can strip all metadata during format conversion.
