Methodology

Recording uses your browser's built-in microphone access and media recorder to capture the live input, with optional echo cancellation, noise suppression, and automatic gain control passed as standard audio settings. Effects are applied after recording by re-playing the clip through an offline audio graph: filters shape the tone, a delay line creates echo, and a convolution with a generated impulse response creates reverb. Files download as lossless WAV or, where your browser supports it, compact Opus — an open, royalty-free codec.

Understanding Your Results

The live waveform shows how loud you are as you record. Tall bars mean a strong signal; bars that turn red mean the input is clipping, so lower the volume or move back from the mic. On the saved clip, drag the edges to trim and click to move the playhead — playback and every download follow your selection. Echo adds distinct repeats that bounce back, while reverb adds the smooth ambience of a room; use a little of each rather than a lot.

Practical Examples

Voice note: keep echo cancellation and noise suppression on, record, trim the silence at the ends, and download a compact Opus file to share. Singing or an instrument: turn the input processing off for a faithful capture, add a touch of reverb at around 25%, normalize, and download a lossless WAV. Tips for a better recording

• Record a few seconds of silence first to hear your background noise, then decide whether to leave noise suppression on. • Watch the live waveform and keep the bars well below the top. Which file formats can I download, and why is there no MP3?
You can download a lossless WAV and, where your browser supports it, a compact Opus file. Opus is an open, royalty-free codec standardized by the IETF. MP3 is left out because browsers can't create MP3 files directly, and the available encoders use a copyleft license this project doesn't allow.
How do I choose or switch microphone?
Pick a microphone from the dropdown at the top. The list fills in once you've granted microphone permission. If you plug in a new device, it appears automatically, and you can switch before each recording.

They are standard input settings your browser applies as it captures. Echo cancellation removes sound fed back from your speakers, noise suppression reduces steady background noise, and automatic gain control levels quiet and loud speech. What's the difference between echo and reverb?
Echo is a set of distinct repeats that bounce back after a clear gap, like calling out in a canyon. Reverb is the smooth wash of a room's reflections blending together, like singing in a hall. The recorder lets you add each separately and adjust its level.
Can I record several clips and join them?
Yes. In Advanced mode, each time you record it adds a take, and the takes are joined into one clip in order. You can jump to a take, remove any take you don't want, and the joined result is what you trim and download.
Why did the recorder ask for permission again, or show blank microphone names?
That happens when the page is opened directly from a file rather than over the web. On the live site, served securely, your browser remembers permission and shows each microphone's real name.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, recording, editing, and downloading all run in your browser with no server requests, so it keeps working without a connection.
